In this new day I cherish close the memories we have shared And looking forward to new light, I’m thankful for your care That you showed then and still show now, I beg you open up ‘Cause if it’s only meant for me, your love is not enough In that parabolic view of the city, you held me and we looked out: the ballpark, the federal courthouse, and our hotel, the river flowing south Lunchtime no recall, but dinner one hotdog; McGwire late launched one close – Passed around the section, the ball coming our way was something I’d always hold But juicing was outed, we learned more about it; took six years to reconcile While life kept on moving, the wrong in the open was something we knew couldn’t stand: How many years later has Dred Scott been waiting? this country still awaits its trial – If you saw that cheating then how is it fleeting, and why aren’t you against it now? In this new day I cherish close the memories we have shared And looking forward to new light, I’m thankful for your care That you showed then and still show now, I beg you open up ‘Cause if it’s only meant for me, your love is not enough

Call 04:02
If I called you Woodrow, would you still remember? I know it’s been a while Do you ever feel lonely? You haven’t dreamed in a month Your heart is set in stone A buzzing green cloud of grasshoppers came and blocked out the sky And when they left there were holes in our clothes You handled everything for us, but what I need Would you let me sing to you Woodrow? I know you would mind, but I’d still like to And I call on you Woodrow. I see myself in your eyes It’s only my reflection Do you ever feel lonely? Though I sing this song to you, I know you won’t hear it A strong and silent type–a man of few words Does it ever come back to haunt you? Because I will haunt you One last leg for me to stand on, I need you now more than ever I have followed you for so long, I’ll have to leave you with this song Now I call on you Woodrow. The news is laying on your shoulder Will you finally see him? Do you still feel lonely? When you look out at the sun I know you’ll think of me

Drama 04:11
I don’t crave drama but now it’s been brought to us, I won’t be prude I don’t make violence but if your gun keep shootin, what’s there to do? I don’t hate silence but if it’s at your choosin, this scream’s good too Because all I’ve got is time When you won’t listen, when you won’t change Because you won’t listen All I’ve got is time If you’re still pissin in the wind back on yourself Because you won’t listen It’s a slow trauma but with no lean into it, it will not move I don’t know mama and there’s a lot more to it, but how good is proof? I don’t crave drama but if that’s where we’re moving, please don’t be prude Because all I’ve got is time When there’s no system, system in place One to make you listen All I’ve got is time If you’re still wishin for your normal days — keepin your othered wishin It’s all contortion Until you're brought down from it, and live the view

Atlases 04:24
Building his own bridges Drawing lines on atlases Trying to start fire Where there is none Mississippi River More than he could ever drink The same road as his grandparents Toward some old meat factory Highways that converge again Long term island in a lake Writing ink and cutting boards Bridges built halfway through Building a new home again Drawing lines on atlases Trying to start fire Where there is none

Buy 03:49
The man said to connect it all So we’ve opened the whole thing — it’s for you If it’s too bright we can dim the sun — it’s your worth’s right to block the blues and anything you want, it’s no big deal and anyone upsets you — they’re not real… in this town… There’s no consequences, it’s all open endings, you’re not beholden to the past You just keep it moving, ain’t no time for losing, and all you gotta do is buy Walking across nations maybe yet I got my own TV set If I had the time I don’t think I’d Give you any piece of mine There’s no consequences, it’s all open endings, you’re not beholden to the past You just keep it moving, ain’t no time for losing, and all you gotta do is buy There’s no consequences, it’s all open endings, you’re not beholden to the facts Vibes are always vibing, someone else is driving; you can recharge, you can relax and buy

Citrus King 03:39
Once it felt so good that you might not believe — the day I was the citrus king Once things moved so fluid, each step itself a dream — the royal court and cypress knees Once were all there was, sliced apart from anything — a glimpse through a clementine Darkest winter damned, carried by the breeze — the reign of the citrus king And as we moved from face to face Imbibing in each new found space Hand in hand with citrus queen We ride the wave to days unseen Once things moved so fluid, each step itself a dream — the royal court and cypress knees Darkest winter damned, carried by the breeze — the reign of the citrus king From overhead, from all around Darkness took in its new ground Zooming through parading streets Finding cover under every beat And as the bands, they reached their high — Wagons jumped and feet told time — It began to sink asunder Every plot laid was in that number Crowns laid down premature Darkest winter we surrender Once it felt so good that you might not believe — the day I was the citrus king Once were all there was, sliced apart from anything — a glimpse through a clementine We won’t face days sweet so soon Memories sour with each new moon Says good night to us below: All dead beans from lemon glow Once it felt so good that you might not believe — the day I was the citrus king Once things moved so fluid, each step itself a dream — the royal court and cypress knees Once were all there was, sliced apart from anything — a glimpse through a clementine Darkest winter damned, carried by the breeze — the reign of the citrus king

Buffalo skinner, master of my tools, speak to me how I understand Great plains melody, dust bowl is choking (me), but I’m seeking salvation by my own words Sirens and fireworks like gunshots in movies that I’ve already seen… that I have already seen My Hooversville is so hot tonight–I’m itching to write something, to make something right Are you in the air? Give me some words for this moment now I hope you surround The people that should know you now My heart is on my sleeve If you’re in the air I’ll believe Sleeping outside again it’s so hot tonight– my insides are bold and bright A simple song with simple words I hope you hear exactly what I mean, what I want you to understand I have the same machine, but I don’t play as clean. I still haven’t killed anyone, fascists have all but won My communist troubadour my willcall from far away, writing for magazines, waiting for relief Are you in the air? Give me some words for this moment now I hope you surround The people that should know you now My heart is on my sleeve If you’re in the air I’ll believe Overlapping vocals: The rain will baptize us of words from those I do not trust The lakes and rivers will flood but by my hands I’ll build a damn For you I’ll try and know that I could mean exactly what I say If I am heard I’ll know that I have made something and I hope that: You are in the air Give me some words for this moment now I hope you surround The people that should know you now My heart is on my sleeve If you’re in the air I’ll believe Second Vocals: I’m not sure what I’m doing here Friends killed across the hemispheres Are now state-sanctioned here at home But don’t turn off that metronome You’d think yourself in a nightmare Tied down with HD in a chair Hearing names who i have sung of before, Who I’ve been burned by before! And they don’t dissipate While loved ones fully can spew hate As we take up six-strings again With child militias moving in Then there’s all of this new heat That turns each one of us to meat Can't even look to stars above – The sky’s on fire where they come from The red scare has returned again While we’re supposed to all join hands When the land ain’t mine and only yours And Gulfstream water temperatures Promise the flood to our neighbors – Yeah fuck the fog if you’ve got yours! This land’s deranged, has lost its mind And no one cares just what it’s worth to just survive! You want my two cents? Pocket them and all the more you come across Until you have enough of them to invest in the deconstruct That shares that wheat with big and small – this land is ours, after all! We bleed the blood of gold beyond; this ribbon’s ripped, we have been robbed!

Field Dreams 02:26
Up front with you always, but I’d rather be behind Everything it is you breathe about, whatever’s on your mind At the counter with you I feel we could sell the world So forgive me if I linger on what they can’t see unfurl Locked tight like a secret, faces that we show the rest Are robotic, preconfigured, existence surreal at best Goblins chomping at the bits and pitfalls always rise But in between the hells I find a peace deep in your eyes I can catch from time to time and stay awhile I would chase a lifetime of your lavender field dreams, with a hate they make for cowboys and whatever it’s you please Purple patch to play in, catch each springtime by surprise; if these songs don’t pay the bills to get there, I’ll give it all my life just to see what you and me get into, if you want me

about

Despite all odds and ends, Depression Era Guitar comes out of the studio and into your ears. The second full length from Wumbo arrives in the face of (or because of) the catastrophic global pandemic, band members getting the hell out of Louisiana, band members returning for more punishing heat, new collaborators and the combined responsibilities of several people living, working, and creating in south Louisiana.

Running a tight 33 minutes ("Is this Wumbo's punk record" surely on the tips of every concertgoer on from Shreveport to New Orleans), the playfulness that marked Wumbo's past recordings and their live actions since practically forever shines through on this record. But, Depression Era Guitar fully realizes the noisy outlines that Wumbo only hints at on previous releases. Catch Wumbo now for moments of beauty swirling around with looming catastrophe.
